Sacramento authorities are working a gun violence incident that erupted on the evening of April 18 at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area at the time authorities were breaking up an unlawful assembly of multiple hundreds of people.
How It Started
Officers from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office were first called to Howe Park at approximately 6:30 PM on April 18 after learning of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. Not long after, a second caller reported regarding an alleged brawl happening at the location.
An overhead unit was sent to survey the area but reported no active disturbance. Nevertheless, authorities discovered that hundreds of people had congregated at Howe Park without authorization.
The Dispersal and Shooting
Law enforcement personnel moved to clear the area by positioning themselves around the crowd and broadcasting over loudspeakers directing attendees to go home. Around 15 minutes were allowed for the gathering to break up.

Four Victims Hospitalized
Ultimately, four shooting victims were found to have been shot. The shooting victims — a group of one female and three male victims each apparently in their mid to late twenties — were rushed to hospitals in the Sacramento area. Hospital staff indicated that two had critical injury classifications, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one suffered minor injuries. Fortunately, all four were in stable condition.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department provided support and assisted with medical triage the injured prior to hospital transport.
Physical Evidence
The center of the incident seemed to have unfolded near the Cottage Way corridor next to the local Home Depot situated at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. CSI personnel located additional shell casings scattered along Cottage Way. Bullet damage were observed in the wrought iron fence alongside the Home Depot store. This evidence confirmed that a second shooter had been shooting in a southerly direction from along Cottage Way aimed at the Home Depot. That Home Depot location was locked down for a period of time. CSI investigators and detectives worked tirelessly well into the night.
Suspect Information
Information relayed through law enforcement radio communications confirmed that a Kia connected to the shooting had been detained in an area within Solano County. Four suspects were detained. Sheriff's units were traveling to Solano County to transport the detainees for formal questioning. Surveillance footage confirmed that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
